About Us

At Not The Rug, we know that your furry friend is more than just a pet – they’re a cherished member of your family. That’s why we specialize in providing intimate and personalized dog care that goes above and beyond. Our team of highly experienced professionals is dedicated to ensuring that your dog receives top-notch care and attention on every walk.

We believe that exceptional dog care begins with hiring the right people and investing in their training. That’s why each of our staff members is extensively trained and supervised to provide consistent care that sets us apart from the competition. We prioritize building long-term relationships with our staff, so you can be confident that your dog is in good hands.

Our commitment to your dog’s well-being is reflected in the walk protocols we’ve established, such as our “no pack-walking rule” and double leashing/collar method. We also use GPS tracking to keep you updated on your dog’s progress throughout the walk. And if you ever have any questions or concerns, Luis, the owner of the company, is always just a phone call or text away.

At Not The Rug, we approach dog care with mindfulness and a genuine love for animals. We believe that caring for your dog is a privilege, and we’re honored to be entrusted with their care. Join us in providing your dog with the personalized attention and care they deserve.

Meet the Founder

Not The Rug began with two dogs, Suzy and Oliver, and daily walks rooted in close observation. Focusing on pace, signals, and repetition showed how calm consistency helps dogs move confidently through the world.

After stepping away from a long, demanding career in broadcasting and consultancy, I took a part-time job walking dogs on the Upper East Side. The work was physical, quiet, and grounding in a way I hadn’t experienced before. Nearly two years later, I built something of my own. Not The Rug grew into a small, intentional service shaped by consistency, structure, and meeting each dog as they are.

Williamsburg has been home for many years, and the service remains intentionally rooted here. Familiar streets, familiar faces, and relationships built over time shape how the work is done. Years working in broadcasting, music, and event coordination trained me to read environments, anticipate movement, and stay present. That same awareness carries into every walk. Dogs receive measured, patient, and consistent attention the same standard I give my own.
